“Playwrights Welcome” Full Program Description
Playwrights Welcome is a program created to support and inspire playwrights, composers, lyricists, and librettists. The goal is simple: to provide free access to theatre for theatre writers around the country. Developed for the Dramatists Guild of America members, Playwrights Welcome is a national ticketing initiative created by Samuel French, a Concord Theatricals company, along with input from other publishing and licensing houses.
Placer Repertory Theater is invested in the success and artistic health of our industry’s writers, and by extension the vibrancy of the American theatre. Placer Rep is also aware that attending theatre is an integral part to how writers learn their craft and grow as artists.
Placer Repertory Theater is proud to take part in Playwrights Welcome, which offers available tickets to professional playwrights on the day of a performance, free of charge. To receive a ticket through Playwrights Welcome at our theater, email BoxOffice@placerrep.org in advance, or present your photo ID and Dramatists Guild membership card to the box office at least five minutes prior to showtime.

PROGRAM PROCEDURES
Placer Repertory Theater “Playwrights Welcome” program provides both LIVE THEATER and DIGITAL THEATER procedures for Dramatist Guild of America members to receive one free ticket to any production.
LIVE THEATER
Dramatist Guild Members may contact the Placer Repertory Theater BOX OFFICE (BoxOffice@PlacerRep.org) in advance of any live performance to receive one comp ticket per Dramatist Guild Member at the box office “Will Call” window of the theatrical venue. Currently, there is no policy limiting the number of complimentary Playwrights Welcome tickets our organization is willing to provide per live show when Placer Repertory Theater is contacted in advance by individuals who wish to participate in the Playwrights Welcome program.
Advanced Ticket Requests:
A Dramatist Guild member may request one seat at a specific performance date and time via email.
The member must include either a copy of their DG card (or email the following information as it appears on their card):
- NAME (as it appears on their card)
- Membership number (bottom right under NAME)
- Expiration date of membership card (other side of card on the bottom right)
- Email address they want associated with the ticket
Placer Rep will validate the card, then record the information and send a confirmation email to the DG member stating:
- Performance Date and Time
- Performance Location
- Any special instructions
The Playwrights Welcome complimentary ticket will be held at Will-Call. The DG Member must show their membership card and a valid ID (such as driver’s license) at Will-Call to receive the complimentary ticket.

Day of Show / In-Person Seat Requests
Placer Repertory Theater shall reserve a minimum of 3 seats per showing, to a maximum of 1% of seats in a house of 301+ seats, for our live event venues until 5 minutes before curtain for potential Dramatist Guild walk-up audience members who request a seat in-person at the box office on the day/time of the event. These Playwrights Welcome “day-of” seats are in addition to any complimentary DG Member tickets provided in advance.
If the venue is sold out and there are more requests for DG Member seats than there are available DG seats on the day of the show, any DG member Placer Rep is unable to seat shall receive a confirmed reservation for a free seat to a future showing of their choice.
To request a seat in-person on day of show:
The DG Member must show their membership card and a valid ID (such as driver’s license) at the Box Office to receive a complimentary DG Member seat.

DIGITAL THEATER
Any digital content behind a paywall (livestreamed live or recorded content, or pay-per-view of digital recordings), a Dramatist Guild member may email a copy of their DG card (or email the following information as it appears on their card):
- NAME (as it appears on their card)
- Membership number (bottom right under NAME)
- Expiration date of membership card (other side of card on the bottom right)
- Email address they want associated with the ticket
Assuming the card information is valid, the Placer Rep BOX OFFICE shall record the information and send out an electronic comp ticket for the digital content.
