2024-2025 MAIN SEASON plus SCHOOL TOURS and Family Theater one-sheet

2024-2025 Theatrical Season:

THEME: DARK AMBITIONS

One might infer that all of society’s ills are due to self-centered human ambition, and the narcissism and callousness required to myopically pursue such goals.

This season we look at dark ambitions in

  • MacBeth. A Shakespeare play in which one man’s ambition requires the death of others and how he factionalizes a nation (FALL 2024)
  • The Corsican Brothers. An interactive Melodrama about two feuding houses in Corsica and feuding factions in Paris
                    • Think Capulets and Montagues, Hatfields and McCoys, and current conflicts around the world (FEB 2025)
  • Sherlock Holmes: The Sign of the Four. A Sherlock Holmes comedic, dramatic detective mystery that features individuals’ opposing wills and goals (SPRING 2025)

FALL 2024 – MacBeth a la UBU

The Shakespeare tragedy, MacBeth, starring the comically absurd Pa and Ma UBU (from Alfred Jarry’s UBU ROI) as MacBeth & Lady MacBeth.

  • The presence of these grotesque characters, who parody the worst of humanity, highlights the dark ambitions in this play while breathing new life and new perspectives into one of Shakespeare’s most popular works.
  • Tragedy becomes Tragicomedy – dark and layered with bursts of laughter from the gut.
  • MacBeth as you’ve never seen it before. This is not your grandma’s MacBeth.

 

FEBRUARY 2025 – The Corsican Brothers or The Fatal Duel

An interactive Melodrama adapted by T.S. Forsyth from the script by Dion Boucicault, based upon the novel by Alexandre Dumas (author of The Three Musketeers).

  • Conjoined identical twins, separated at birth but connected through their senses, seek to defend and revenge their family.
  • Comedy, adventure, romance, action (including sword fights) and more.  Performed interactively (like the 2024 Placer Rep hit Frankenstein).

 

SPRING 2025 – SHERLOCK HOLMES: The Sign of the Four

Placer Repertory Theater is excited to share this romantic, comedic detective play based on a few stories and the novel, The Sign of the Four, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.  This comedic play is suitable for all audiences and will perform in several locations. Each locale has its own Eventbrite listing (URL).

SHERLOCK HOLMES: The Sign of the Four

Many of Conan Doyle’s beloved characters are included in this play. In addition to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, the production includes Mrs. Hudson, Inspector Jones of Scotland Yard. All cast members, except Dr. Watson, play multiple secondary roles for a total of 18 characters plus “Toby the Wonderdog.”

This is the last main season show for 2024-2025.
